My name’s Joey Scafidi and I’m the owner and head coach at CrossFit Committed. I discovered CrossFit in early 2009 while searching for a new fitness program. I thought I was in great shape at the time but after peeling myself off of the floor after my first CrossFit workout I knew that there was still a lot of work to be done.
Shortly after realizing that I couldn’t go back to the old way I had been training, I signed up for my Level 1 seminar in early 2010. Early in 2011 CrossFit Committed was born and now I’m proud to say that CrossFit Committed has grown into one of the best training facilities around. I’m extremely lucky to be surrounded by a great team of talented trainers.
It’s a great feeling to know that you’ve found your passion in life and for me that passion is helping others become better at life through fitness and performance. I’ve had numerous clients tell me that CrossFit has changed their lives and it makes me extremely proud to know that I’ve had a part in that.

I started CrossFit back in spring 2012 when I joined CrossFit Committed, and I’ve been hooked ever since my first WOD (which was Fran!).
My sporting background is endurance running and triathlons. I spent 4 years training and participating in various distance runs from 5km up to marathons, and triathlons from sprint distances (750m swim – 30km bike – 5km run) up to a half ironman (1.9km swim – 90km bike – 21km run).

Before getting into that, I spent a few years doing regular workouts in a ‘globo’ gym during my university studies. In 2010 I started to focus more seriously on triathlons. My trainer prepared a training plan for me based on CrossFit endurance’s style of endurance training (technique – intensity – volume) plus strength preparation inspired by CrossFit during the offseason. That’s how I heard about CrossFit for the first time and eventually decided to try it in a real box. Since then it’s all been about CrossFit for me I changed my sport, career…. life

I have been coaching CrossFit since August 2013. I love helping people realize that they can reach any goal they want and I love seeing them improve both inside and outside the gym.

First of all I love CrossFit, coaching and helping all types of people move better and reach their goals. One of the best things about this sport is the opportunity to constantly improve and grow as a person and as an athlete regardless of background or ability. My whole life I have loved competing and I have a passion for extreme sports. I have done all types of sports from judo, soccer and surfing to competing semi pro as a freestyle snowboarder. I started CrossFit in 2012 and completed my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certification in Chicago, IL In June 2013. Besides squats, snatches and cleans I love walking my dog in Stromovka and enjoying an occasional paleo pilsner with friends.

My CrossFit journey started in early 2013 when I was searching for a new sports program. As a teenager I was used to having dance training every day for 3 hours and spending weekends hiking and cycling with my parents, but when I started studying at university and going to work, my fitness suffered. One day, in the pursuit of my lost “shape”, I found myself at CrossFit Committed. During the first classes I thought I was going to die after the WARM UP!
Many things have changed in my life ever since. I participated in multiple competitions such as the CrossFit Open and Czech Beast and completed the CrossFit Level 1 certification. What CrossFit actually gives me is much more than fitness. I met the best community of people here that support each other at the gym and outside of it. I love helping people to find their better selves through CrossFit, to have a deeper understanding of their body and fitness and to feel stronger and healthier day by day.

My first experience with CrossFit was in 2009 in my hometown in New York. After traveling for a while I ended up in Prague in July 2011. For my first 18 months here I neglected fitness completely until I realized how out of shape I had become. I needed to find some motivation to get myself moving again so I signed up for the Prague half Marathon in January of 2013. After running 21km in 93 minutes in April of that year I thought I was in the best shape of my life. My brother suggested I get back into CrossFit, after a couple flexibility and strength tests with Joey I realized I WAS NOT in the best shape of my life. Needless to say I’ve been working out at CFC ever since.

My favorite part about CrossFit is the fact that it continues to surprise me. There are so many things I’ve been able to accomplish I thought I would never be able to do because of CrossFit. They range from the simple (being able to touch my toes) to the more complex (muscle ups, handstand walking). I love coaching because I’m able to see other people achieve similar goals on what seems like a weekly basis. I’ve also met a ton of awesome people at the gym and most of the people I hang out with in my free time are CFC members or coaches.

Outside of the gym I also work at a preschool teaching English. Most of my time outside of work is dedicated to my hopeless addictions to Major League Baseball, the NHL, Bruce Springsteen and (yes I know this is pathetic) professional wrestling.

I’ve found CrossFit Committed/CrossFit through Joey (owner of CFC) four years ago while searching to supplement my MMA training which I had been doing for several years. I love human movement, its mechanics and believe that prevention, nutrition and regular exercise can lead everyone to simply feel and perform better in anything they do.
The reason why I stand fully behind CrossFit is that it can bring out the full physical and mental potential in everyone regardless of their fitness level (from competitors to pensioners who like to keep moving well), while having fun. We see success stories every day!
While traveling the world in 2015 I have seen many CF boxes and their communities, which inspired me even more to follow CF full heartedly. In my free time I like swimming, running and pursuing different martial arts i.e. BJJ, Muay Thai etc. (constantly varied movements☺), reading and playing the guitar/drums.
